Projects >> Project Lend A Hand

Project lend a hand is a community service project by Jamiyah Singapore in collaboration with JBS International College and supported by Linklaters Singapore

It was launched on 1 July 2009 and has since helped more than 180 PSLE students who needed that extra boost to score better grades in Mathematics, English and Science. These students come from families with a financial difficulties who have consistently achieved grades ranging from 40% to 55%.

Project lend a Hand is conducted concurrently at Jamiyah`s West Coast Student Service Centre , Blk 730 Clementi West Street 2, #01-326 and JBS International College, 190 Changi Road # 02-02 Singapore 419974.

The PSLE Students attend the classes free of charge with the generous support by Linklaters Singapore who believes that an investment in knowledge will reap the best interest.

Classes are run three times a week for three months from July to September. Class size is kept small to encourage rapport between the teacher and students as well as to ensure that students have sufficient time to clarify any concepts or seek help in any difficulties that they encounter in school.

They are required to sit for an assessment at the end of each month in order to familiarize themselves with the PSLE curriculum and examination format. It also helps them gauge their own performance.

Project Lend a Hand had assisted more than 180 students since its introduction in 2009.  It is currently in its 5th year, and has successfully achieved its objectives of assisting the students to improve by a minimum of 1 grade.

Student`s Testimonials
“When I first joined Lend-A-Hand, I was scoring borderline grades. I was worried that I was not going to achieve the grades expected of me. With the help of the tutors’ unwavering dedication, parents’ support and the sheer panic of all the project participants, what we saw on the result slip brought a smile to our faces. For some of us, we did way better than expected. I know I did.”
– Candy, 2011 participant of Project Lend-a-Hand

“Thanks to the dedicated teachers who guided and supported us, we triumphed and held better-than-expected results for PSLE. It was quite unexpected for me as I made improvements of several grades as compared to the Preliminary Examinations. I even made it into the Express stream!”
- Shawal, 2010 participant of Project Lend-a-Hand
